Isle of Wight Academy played and won its oft-delayed softball tournament game against Nansemond Suffolk Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday at Stoney Run Athletic Complex in Newport News.

The game, postponed since Thursday by recent rainy weather, is a semifinal in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II Tournament.

The semifinals had been scheduled for Thursday at the Dinwiddie Sports Complex in Sutherland, but was repeatedly postponed and, then, moved to Stoney Run. NSA advanced to the semifinal by shutting out Seton of Manassas 13-0.

Last Tuesday, in a VISAA quarterfinal, IWA’s Mackenzie Wooten pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts in five innings as the Chargers shut out Fredericksburg Christian Academy 10-0.

IWA scored their runs in the fifth inning, ending the game via the mercy rule.
