ISLE OF WIGHT
Isle of Wight Academy got a season-high 34 points from Jordan Baines, but it was not enough to defeat Portsmouth Christian. The Patriots triumphed 67-60 Friday at Jester Gymnasium.

The Chargers were outscored 40-22 In the first half and, by that point, considerable damage had already been done. But in the third quarter, IWA began its climb back into the game, outscoring PCS 22-14 on 13 points from Baines.

Baines and teammate Grant Worthy each had seven in the final period, which the Chargers won 16-13.  Worthy finished the game with 14 points.

PCS had four players in double figures: Dominic Williams, 19; Xavier Austin, 15; Jerry Goodman, 13; and Kevon Spigner, 10.

The loss dropped the Chargers’ record to 10-7, 4-5 in the Metro Athletic Conference. The Chargers returned to action Tuesday night, when they hosted Denbigh Baptist at Jester Gym.

The results of that game were not available at presstime.

On Tuesday, Jan. 24, the Chargers were thrashed by Hampton Christian, 70-45.

IWA trailed 52-25 after three quarters and 31-14 at halftime. Baines had 25 points and was the only Charger in double figures.

Hampton Christian rode a 15-point outing by Chase Mann and got 13 points each from Evan Tebay and Cody Peyton.

IWA lost more than the game: Senior Rylee Williams suffered an apparent knee injury in the second quarter. Williams missed Friday’s game and his status for upcoming games has not been determined.

Monday, the Chargers hit five 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to dart past Alliance Christian 59-44 in another Metro tilt.

Baines, the game’s leading scorer with 26 points, hit three long-distance shots during that span.

Worthy and Rylee Williams also connected from beyond the arc during that stretch.
