Southampton Academy’s varsity soccer team opened Virginia Colonial Conference play against Kenston Forest School on Wednesday night with a 9-0 win.

Senior Seth Edwards scored three goals to record his first hat trick of the season, and sophomore Hunter Michener scored twice; it was Michener’s first career game. Freshman Will Belmonte and juniors Roy Hill and Emery Weist each added a goal, as well. Senior goalkeeper Chris Fly recorded the shutout.

Prior to last night’s match, the Raiders lost 4-1 in a preseason scrimmage against the Beach Breakers, a homeschool team from Virginia Beach, and defeated Surry High School last Friday night, 2-0, with goals coming from Seth Edwards and Emery Weist.

The Varsity Raiders finished in 2nd place in a preseason tournament over the weekend hosted by Isle of Wight Academy.

The junior varsity Raiders have participated in two preseason scrimmages, losing both to Beach Breakers (7-0) and Surry High School (1-0).

The Varsity team travels to Brunswick Academy on Monday before both teams host Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot on Tuesday in Courtland. First kick for junior varsity is at 4 p.m., with the varsity match to follow.
