Blackwater Volleyball Club off to strong start

COURTLAND
The Blackwater Volleyball Club is off to a winning season for several of its teams. The traveling club, which consists of six teams, started in the end of January and will last until its final competition in the beginning of April. The six different teams are made up of girls from Southampton High, Franklin High, Southampton Academy, Tidewater Academy, Windsor High, Greensville High and Smithfield High.

The teams are 12 Grassroots coached by Emmy Hodges and Grayson Drake; 12U coached by Crystal Butler and Nacasa Greene; 13U coached by Amy Davis and Jackie Hodges; 15U coached by Jack Schwolow and Rebecca Harper; 16U coached by Susan Melbye and Allison Griggs; and 18U coached by Faith Hewitt and Grayson Drake.

“All teams are playing in five competitions with the exception grassroots team because they are learning the game and are all beginning players,” coach Amy Davis said. “The tournaments are mainly in Richmond at Richmond Volleyball Club, but we also will travel to Virginia Wesleyan, Williamsburg and Virginia Beach for tournaments.”

The 12U team placed second at their first tournament on Jan. 30.
