Parrott quarterback’s career day too much for Southampton Academy

KINSTON, N.C.
Parrott Academy quarterback Connor Bright shredded the Southampton Academy defense for 379 yards and a school-record eight touchdowns in the Patriots’ 68-30 win over Southampton Academy on Friday night. The game meant little as far as playoff seeding was concerned, however, as the Raiders were already scheduled to play Lawrence Academy in the first round of the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association Division IA playoffs on Nov. 6.

Both teams entered the contest with just one loss, but the Raiders has no answer for Bright. The dual-threat quarterback completed 17 of his 26 pass attempts for the aforementioned eight touchdowns with no interceptions, and also ran for another score.

Bright threw four touchdown passes in the first quarter alone, as the Patriots raced out to a 30-8 lead early on. The team never looked back, either, racking up 539 yards of total offense in adding another score in the second, two more in the third and the final score in the fourth.

Southampton Academy, meanwhile, had 8- and 9-yard touchdown runs from running backs Ian Mizelle and Jalen Myrick, respectively, in the first half. Quarterback Andrew Lowe added two scores of his own — one running and one passing — but the Patriots were too much for the Raiders to handle in their third-consecutive win in the series.
