Both varsity and junior varsity Southampton volleyball teams defeated Greensville in straight sets on Thursday night. Varsity scores were 25-13, 25-16 and 25-20.

Stats from the game included Courtney Vinson with 11 assists and two kills; Jenna Billups with three aces and six kills; Emma Drake with three aces and six kills; Sarah Williams with six kills; Morgan Bunn with seven kills; and Danielle Moore with 11 assists and two kills.

Coach Amy Davis said, “The varsity team had another successful night and was able to get a lot of people earned time on the court from all the time and hard work they have put in during practices. Sarah Williams, Jenna Billups and Emma Drake all had great games, but Morgan Bunn did a little extra to get one more kill and made some outstanding defensive plays. Both Courtney Vinson and Danielle Moore both made smart decisions when choosing where to send the ball for the kill.”

Senior Morgan Bunn said, “As a team we came together and did a good job picking each other up. Everyone played really well in different positions, next to a player they aren’t used to playing beside. I am proud of my team for winning.”

Davis added, “We worked very hard at minimizing our mistakes and staying mentally focused the entire game.”

Junior varsity also won its game and defeated Greensville, with scores of 25-7 and 25-15.

Highlights from the game included Ashlyn Edwards with 13 assists, two aces and two kills; Emma McClelland with nine assists and seven kills; and Hannah Bradshaw with four aces and four kills

Freshman Emma McClelland said, “I think that we came out and played our best and all worked together very well.”

Davis said, “The junior varsity team did an outstanding job. They came up short last time they faced Greensville. The Eagles have a very fast-paced, non-traditional offense that caught the girls by surprise the first game. This game they worked hard to prep for one and two touch pass overs and were able to make the adjustments needed to be extremely successful and get the win.”

The teams will play again on Tuesday in a home match against Park View.
