Indians continue winning streak

The Southampton varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams defeated Franklin on Sept. 24. Final scores for varsity were 25-11, 25-19 and 25-19. Junior varsity had final scores of 25-5 and 25-15.

Varsity standouts were Courtney Vinson with three aces and eight assists; Jenna Billups with two aces, four kills and eight digs; Emma Drake with two aces, nine kills and three digs; Allie Holt with five aces and two kills; and Brittany Bunn with 11 assists.

Junior varsity standouts were Ashlyn Edwards with four aces and seven kills; Madeline Burgess with four kills; Amani Gary with three aces; Jamey Bunn with three aces and two kills; and Jacey Bunn with three digs.

The teams played again on Tuesday night at Brunswick and each team earned another victory. Varsity had final scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-23; and junior varsity had final scorers of 25-10 and 25-6.

Highlights for the varsity game were Sarah Williams with four aces, six assists and seven kills; Peyton Bunn with five digs; Courtney Vinson with 13 assists and two kills; and Erin Rountree with five kills.

The highlights for the junior varsity game were Ashlyn Edwards with four aces and six assists; Amani Gary with six aces; Jacey Bunn with five aces and one kills; Emma McClelland with two aces, three assists and three kills; and Maddie Simmons with one kill and two digs.

“The Indians were in control of both junior varsity games the entire time,” coach Amy Davis said.  “But both teams starting six did a great job of taking a commanding lead and giving us the chance to get all the players a chance to gain some experience on the court in a game situation.”

The teams will play again on Wednesday at Colonial Heights.
