PORTSMOUTH
On Thursday, the Isle of Wight Academy Chargers lost 8-4 in the second round of the Metro Conference Tournament to Portsmouth Christian (11-10).

Both teams struggled to get it going early with the Chargers’ James Ricks and the Patriots’ Jordan Massengale on the mound. Neither were dominant, but it took the fifth inning before Portsmouth could get something going. Noah Pye came in to relieve Ricks and end the fifth frame, but by then the Patriots had scored all of the runs they would need to.

The Chargers (10-8) did accumulate 10 hits in the game but stranded seven.

Carson Robertson led the way at the plate, batting 3 for 4 with an RBI on three doubles. He scored twice, with Pye knocking him across the plate each time with his two singles.

Alec Wonders and Bryce Johnson each had two hits.

The Chargers are likely to be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming VISAA Div. III tournament. They will likely host the Broadwater Academy Vikings (8-8) on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. if each team remains in their current slot to end the season.

The Chargers defeated the Vikings in both games of a doubleheader earlier this season.
