Isle of Wight Academy baseball begins playoffs with rout

The Isle of Wight Academy Chargers’ Alec Wonders one-hit Williamsburg Christian Academy en route to an 11-0 first round METRO Conference Tournament victory.

The team was set to face Portsmouth Christian Thursday afternoon in the next round, but results were not available before deadline.

The Chargers had 10 hits and were walked four times during Wednesday’s game against Williamsburg. Offensively, Jacob Mintz led the way, going 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs. He had a double and a home run. Wonders had two hits and drove in two runs. Off of one double, Dylan Robertson drove in three runs.

On the mound, Wonders only walked one and had 6 strikeouts during his six innings of work.

The Chargers run ruled the Eagles in the bottom of the sixth with an out not being recorded by W. Callapodas, who was the only pitcher of record for Williamsburg.

The Chargers improved to 10-7.
