Lady Indians beat Sussex Central, climb above .500

The Southampton softball team run-ruled Sussex Central this past Tuesday, 16-3. Senior pitcher Katelynn Cobb pitched three stellar innings, striking out eight batters compared to allowing only two hits.

Sophomore Kelby Lewis relieved Cobb in the bottom of the fourth frame, striking out three in two innings of work.

Seniors Hilary Newlon and Bryona Knight were both perfect from the plate, registering four hits apiece. Newlon was a double shy of the cycle, with two singles, a triple and home run. Knight was a home run shy of the cycle, with two base knocks, a double and a triple.

The Lady Indians moved above .500 (5-4) with the win. The team was scheduled to travel to Greensville on Thursday afternoon, but the contest was rained out. Southampton will play host to Brunswick on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
