The Isle of Wight Academy Chargers played on Tuesday and Wednesday night in Metro League games, first traveling to play the Portsmouth Christian Patriots and then hosting the Atlantic Shores Seahawks.

Alec Wonders gave up 10 hits against the Patriots in six innings. While there were eight runs to the Chargers’ six, Wonders only earned three of them.

In the loss, Rylee Williams and Chris Sproul hit one-run home runs. Carson Robertson was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.

Seahawks’ senior Trey Celata pitched a dominant game, but despite striking out 14, he was not unhitable. The Chargers ended the first inning with a two-run edge off the bat of Dylan Robertson.

Then Casey Turner happened. He launched a home run off of Noah Pye, and the Seahawks took a 4-3 advantage at the end of the third inning. It would hold.

Williams came in to relieve Pye in the sixth inning, and only gave up one hit in 1.2 innings of work.

The Chargers (9-7) are set to end the regular season Friday in Newport News facing Peninsula Catholic (9-8).

In the VISAA Div. III standings released before this week’s pair of loses, Isle of Wight Academy held the No. 3 spot in the state. The Chargers had a 13-point edge on Tidewater Academy and North Cross School, who were tied for the No. 4 spot.
