The Southampton softball team beat the Sussex Central Tigers, 25-1, on Tuesday afternoon. Senior Katelyn Cobb and sophomore Bryona Knight combined to pitch a complete-game no-hitter.

“Another showing of strong defense and big hits contributed to the win,” said manager Amy Davis.

Sophomore designated hitter Kelby Lewis went 3 for 3 with a grand slam, and sophomore shortstop Skyler Bagnell was 2 for 2 with a double and a triple, respectively. Senior centerfielder Meghan Simmons also went 4 for 4 with a double and three base hits.

The lone run the Indians ceded came when the second batter of the game was hit by a pitch, stole second and third and then scored on a passed ball.

The team capped the week by beating Franklin 19-0 on Thursday afternoon. Up next, Southampton travels to Dendron to play Surry County on Tuesday, April 28. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
