WINDSOR
Despite the weather, the Lady Dukes of Windsor High School have been trying to prepare for whatever they might face when VHSL 2A Conference 33 officials decided their fate. On Friday morning, the conference tournament was cancelled, but as Conference 33’s No. 2 seed, the Dukes were able to advance to the 2A Eastern Regional Tournament.

There, they will face the Nottoway High School Lady Cougars of 2A Conference 34. Officials of Conference 34 also cancelled the conference tournament, and Nottoway advances as a No. 3 seed to the regional.

Tipoff will be at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the Windsor High School Gym.

Windsor head coach Sherry Ashburn said the Dukes practiced on Friday, the team will practice today, Feb. 21, and again on Monday.

“We are still working hard,” she said. “We just look forward to playing them, and giving it our all.”

Last year, the Lady Dukes finished the season with only three wins, and the first-year head coach said she was proud of how far the team has come, going 10-8 this season.

“This year, they really pushed themselves hard,” Ashburn said. “We made overall team improvements, and hopefully we can keep it going forward.”
