ISLE OF WIGHT
Isle of Wight Academy avoided a repeat of the blowout of earlier this season, but Portsmouth Christian still triumphed 65-50 Tuesday night at Jester Gymnasium.

Portsmouth’s Justin Chicot had 17 points and Adrian Clayton had 14 for the Patriots.

James Ricks led the Chargers with a season high 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and teammate Adam Webb had 11 points for IWA.

IWA stayed within striking distance until late in the game, trailing 17-10 after a quarter and 32-26 at the half. But a Portsmouth scoring binge in the second half (The Patriots won the third quarter 14-10 and the fourth 19-14) put the game out of reach.

The Chargers got as close as three points, cutting the Portsmouth lead to three, 36-33, on one of Ricks’ 3-pointers with 4:44 left in the third. But PCS scored 10 of the next 13 points before the end of the quarter to take control.

IWA (3-16, 1-9 in the Metro Athletic Conference) returns to action Friday against Denbigh Baptist, the only Metro team IWA has defeated this year.

On Friday, IWA dropped another contest to Hampton Christian 73-54.

In that loss, Bryce Casey put up 20 points, while freshman Brandon Casey had 10 points off of the bench.
