The Southampton Indians girls basketball team was overwhelmed by Brunswick, 57-26, in their final game of the 2014 calendar year.

“We continue to play better, but our shots just wouldn’t go down this game,” said head coach Littleton Parker. “It just happens like that sometimes, you know?”

Sophomore guard Bryona Knight led the Lady Indians in scoring once again, tallying 10 points in the loss. Coming off the best game of her young career, freshman guard Jamaya Hunt also pitched in eight.

“We worked the ball inside real well in the second half, but we couldn’t recover after falling behind,” Parker said. “We just couldn’t get it to fall.”

With the loss, the Lady Indians drop to 3-5, 3-3 in the district. They’ll have a chance to gain ground on the first place team in the district, however, when they host Greensville County on Jan. 2.
