ISLE OF WIGHT
Isle of Wight Academy battled gamely for a half before falling to a Hampton Christian bombardment 78-56 at home on Tuesday night in the Metro Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

Bryce Casey had 17 points and teammate Adam Webb pitched in 12 for the Chargers.

The Warriors’ M.J. Ambers had 21 points; Deon Tabb had 18.

IWA trailed 32-23 at halftime despite 17 of Ambers’ points during the first two quarters. But the third period was a tipping point when Hampton Christian outscored IWA 24-11. The two teams played to a draw, 22-22, in the fourth quarter, but by then it was too late.

The Chargers (1-3) play at Portsmouth Christian tonight.
