Encouraged by the attendance of and response to last December’s concert, The Tidewater News will again host a free holiday musical program, the Franklin-Southampton Community Holiday Concert. This year, though, the Navy’s U.S. Fleet Forces Wind Ensemble Band will perform, and will be in Southampton High School on Thursday, Dec. 4. The concert begins at 7 p.m., according to MU1 Jennifer Goins, public information officer for the band.

She said the band is made up of 45 musicians who regularly play at events both national and international, such as Fleet Week in New York City, the Cleveland Air Show, annually performing in the Virginia International Tattoo, as well as many deployments that support Operation Continuing Promise.

Director for the band is Lt. Cmdr. Mark Corbliss, who before this position had been director of the Fleet Support Unit, the Navy Band for the southwest and most recently for the southeast.

Tickets will be required, but as mentioned above, these are free. They can be picked up starting on Friday at the newspaper, 1000 Armory Drive, Franklin.

The school auditorium is located at 23350 Southampton Pkwy, Courtland.

For ticket details, call 562-3187.
