Chowan falls short in homecoming game

The Chowan University Hawks fell prey to the Bulldogs of Bowie State University in their Homecoming game 39-11.

At first the Hawks seemed to have the game well under control with a 61 yard touchdown pass from DaSean Martin to Ryan Nolan with only 1:07 seconds ticked off the clock in the opening quarter. With a two-point conversion completed with a pass from Dain McFarland to Kaine Lombard, the Hawks were off to an early 8-0 lead.

The Bulldogs came back and put up 9 unanswered points with 3 field goals until the Hawks could get on the board again with a 45 yard field goal from Nick Hahula, bringing the score 11-9 with 6:44 left in the second quarter. The Hawks would remain scoreless for the remainder of the game, while the Bulldogs would capitalize on turnovers. The Hawks turned the ball over with 2 fumbles and 5 interceptions, while the Bulldogs were able to keep the ball with 0 fumbles lost and only 1 interception.

Anthony Clanton led the Hawks in rushing with 4 carries for 62 yards. He was followed by DaSean Martin, who carried 19 times for 61 yards, followed by Bilal Wallace with 5 for 15 and Dexter Green 1 for 11 yards. Ryan Nolan led in receiving with 3 for 96 yards and 1 touchdown catch, followed by Antjuan Randall with 6 for 68 yards. DaSean Martin was 2 for 12 and Dexter Green 2 for 4 yards.

Quarterbacking was shared by Dain McFarland and Bilal Wallace. McFarland was 13 for 30 and threw 2 interceptions. Bilal was 2 for 7 and he threw 2 interceptions.

Chowan University will play host this coming Saturday to Virginia Union University with the kickoff slated for 7 p.m. at Garrison Stadium.
