­Hawks take on Aggies Saturday

GREENSBORO, N.C.-The Chowan University Hawks hit the road for the second consecutive week to take on the Aggies of North Carolina A&T State University. Kick-off is slated for 6 p.m. on Sept. 20th in Aggie Stadium.

The Aggies are an NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision team in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, which is made up of historically black colleges and universities.

This is the first time in 6 years that North Carolina A&T has played a Div. II Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association team.

Chowan looks to recover from a 47-7 setback against Alderson Broaddus. The Battlers produced 590 yards of total offense in the win.

Wilson Vaughn completed 37-43 passes for 467 yards, connecting with 10 different receivers and tossed five touchdown passes in the victory. The Hawks tallied 350 yards of total offense in the loss. Ryan Nolan hauled in 10 receptions for 133 yards while Dain McFarland completed 23 of 40 pass attempts for 225 yards.

Defensively, Jared Turner had a career day for the Hawks, collecting 17 tackles (12 solo, five assisted) on the afternoon, a pass breakup and tackle for loss. He earned CIAA Player of the Week accolades as a result of his performance.

Tarik Cohen led the Aggies to a 17-12 victory over Elon last week. He rushed for a career-high 234 yards including a game-winning 81-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Chowan enters the contest with an 1-1 mark on the year. The Aggies post a 2-1 record heading into Saturday’s contest.

This Saturday marks the first time Chowan and North Carolina A&T meet on the gridiron.
