RICHMOND—Richmond International Raceway will once again host the final “Race for the Chase” for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Tony Stewart will be fighting for one last chance to make the Chase as he goes into the race with no wins this season and is too far behind to make it with points. Stewart has three wins in the past at RIR with the last win being in 2002. Due to an accident last year, he was unable to compete in the fall race at RIR and was sitting on the sidelines watching his teammate at the time, Ryan Newman, fight to make the Chase.

There was a lot of controversy over a cheating scandal involving Clint Boyer who brought out the caution during the closing laps while Newman was winning, with the end result knocking Newman out of the Chase. The Chase was completely realigned later allowing Newman in the Chase along with Jeff Gordon, who was also victimized due to this scandal.

The Tidewater News will once again be on site covering both races and looking for local faces in the crowd. Racing will be this weekend with the Nationwide Series on Friday night and the Sprint Cup Series on Saturday night with the drop of the Green Flag at 7:30 p.m.
