ISLE OF WIGHT—Isle of Wight Academy continued its winning ways, taking both ends of a doubleheader from Hampton Christian here Friday, 7-2 and 13-1.

Adam Webb and Alec Wonders started the games and earned wins for IWA, which has won seven consecutive games after starting the year 1-4.

The Chargers are in second place in the league; Shores, in first. IWA dropped a 6-5 contest to Shores last month. The conference tournament began on Tuesday, continues pm Thursday and Friday. IWA is currently ranked no. 3 in Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Div. III. The Seahawks are no. 7 in Div. II. State tournament play begins the week of May 12.

In the first game, IWA took the lead in the third inning on an RBI single by Matthew Herrmann off Hampton’s Andy Figg, which scored Carson Robertson. Herrmann knocked in three on three hits and Webb allowed two runs over four innings, striking out six, walking four and surrendering three hits.

Figg took the loss for Hampton Christian. He allowed seven runs in four innings, walked three and struck out one.

The top of the first saw Hampton Christian take an early lead, 1-0, but the Chargers answered with two runs in the bottom of that frame on an RBI double by Matthew and an RBI single by Travis Jones.

IWA added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Reid Taylor singled, plating Noah Pye to kick things off. That was followed up by Robertson’s double, scoring Reid Taylor.

In the second game, IWA scored seven runs in the first three innings to defeat Hampton 13-1.

An RBI single by Alec Wonders during the first inning and a two-run double by Carson Robertson in the second supplied the early offense for the Chargers. Robertson racked up four RBIs on three hits.

Reid Taylor was in control on the hill, holding Hampton Christian hitless over 2-2/3 innings, allowing no earned runs, walking none and striking out four.

Wonders recorded the win for IWA. He allowed one run over 1-1/3 innings. He struck out two, walked five and surrendered one hit.

IWA increased its lead with four runs in the third. A bases loaded walk scored Travis Jones to start the scoring in the inning.

The Chargers tacked on another six runs in the fourth. A clutch steal of home scored Noah Pye to open the scoring in the frame. That was followed up by Taylor’s single, scoring Matt Manner.
