COURTLAND—Morgan Pope was a triple shy of batting for the cycle on Friday as Southampton Academy pulled ahead of Kenston Forest 5-4 in Blackstone. Pope hit a single, a double and a home run as she went 3-for-4 and had 3 runs and 3 RBIs.

Offensively, the Raiders got off to a quick start, loading the bases in the first, but they failed to get a runner across. After that, however, SA was able to score some runs and never trailed in the game, though in the sixth inning KF was able to tie it 3-3.

“The team did a great job keeping their composure after Kenston tied the game at 3 in the bottom of the sixth,” said assistant coach Scott Speight.

The Raiders scored 2 in the top of the seventh, and while Kenston Forest got a run in the bottom of the seventh, they were not able to mount the comeback.

Brooke Mizelle batted a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and 1 RBI and she scored 3 runs.

Mizelle pitched all 7 innings, gave up 4 hits, 2 earned runs and walked 2. She struck out 2 batters.

On Monday, the Raiders traveled to Richmond to take on Central Virginia Homeschool, topping them 8-0. Mizelle pitched a no-hitter, striking out 9 in the process.

In the top of the fifth, August Ringer broke up the scoreless game with a 2 RBI double. Mizelle followed that with a double and Mason Pope also followed that with a double of her own.

In the sixth, they loaded the bases and Mizelle hit a double to drive in all three. Pope followed that up with a single that scored Mizelle.

Both 4-run rallies were set up by a Chelsea Beltrami sacrifice bunt.
