On a bright Thursday afternoon, the Southampton Indians baseball team fell to the Park View Dragons 3-1.

In the fast-paced contest that included 13 total base runners and eight total hits, the Dragons were able to take better advantage of miscues than the Indians were.

The Indians were able to score one run in the bottom of the first inning, when James Williams singled a line drive to left-center, stole second base, and scored on Hayden Spalding’s hard hit ground ball to third base.

The Dragons did not come alive until the top of the fourth inning, when they were able to score a runner from second base on a single to left-center. After the Indians committed an error with two outs, the Dragons hit a Texas leaguer over the first baseman’s head to plate the two runners.

Williams ended up with three hits on the day and senior Brandon Knight also had a single. The Dragons had four hits and 2 errors on the day; whereas, the Indians had four hits and one error. The Indians record is now 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the Tri-Rivers District.

The Indians will travel next week to play in the King’s Fork Tournament Monday through Wednesday and Franklin on Thursday.
