Southampton girls tennis wins on road

WINDSOR—The Southampton Lady Indians bested the Windsor Lady Dukes in a close match on Wednesday.

Jessica Blythe started things off for Windsor, with a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Melia Hill in No. 1 singles. Two seed Waverli Taylor followed that up with a 6-1, 6-4 win against Eve Robertson.

Southampton’s Marena Vick would pick up the No. 3 singles victory 6-3, 6-0 against Hanna Seward. Carrie Beale would tie the score 2-2 for after defeating Gabby Perkins 6-2, 6-1.

In No. 4 singles, Calli Barton would score a 6-1, 6-2 victory the Lady Dukes against Maddie Niles, returning the lead to Windsor. Amber Gurganus, however, tied it back up, defeating Windsor’s Kacie Jackson 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot.

The No. 1 doubles pair of the Lady Dukes, Blythe and Taylor, would top Hill and Vick 6-1, 6-4.

Maddie Niles and Beale would tie it right back up, however, 6-1, 64.

The No. 3 doubles seed was tightly contested. Lady Dukes Gabby Perkins and Hannah Seward picked up the first game 6-4. Southampton’s team of Gurganus and Nicole Brown came back in the second game and took it 6-2.

The third game would come down to the tiebreaker, and the Lady Indians would pick it up 10-8.
