SA softball sweeps double-header

PORTSMOUTH—Kara Beth Poole won her first start of the season in game 1 of a double-header against Portsmouth Christian Saturday. The team came away with an 8-1 victory.

In a 5 inning game, Poole pitched 3.2 innings and struck out 4. Poole faced 18 batters, hit two batters and gave up 2 hits. The run was unearned.

Brooke Mizelle cleaned up for her, striking out 4 of the five batters she faced in 1.1 innings.

Morgan Pope had a 4-RBI day, batting 2-for-3. Mason Pope and Ashten Hinkle also had 2-hit days. Mason had 1 RBI. Mizelle drove in a run on a 2-for-3 day. She had a double.

The second game of the double-header went 5 innings, and Southampton Academy won 15-0. Mizelle pitched a 2-hitter, hit a batter and struck out 7 in her complete game shutout. Mizelle improved to 6-3 on the season, and she’s boasting a 2.22 ERA in 63.4 innings pitched.

Poole, Mason, Hinkle, Morgan and Chelsea Beltrami all had 2-hit days, and Mizelle was 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Hinkle, who had a homerun, drove in 2, and Poole, Allie Holt and Beltrami each drove in a run.

SA improved to 7-4 on the season. They are 3-2 in league play.
