SA baseball wraps up week with 4 wins

COURTLAND—Southampton Academy baseball was 4-0 for the week of March 31, with wins against NSA 17-16, Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot 14-2, Brunswick Academy 10-0, and Portsmouth Christian 14-2.

After the NSA game, SA’s pitching and defense proved solid for the team. In the Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot game, Matt Rose and Andrew Lowe combined on the mound to allow only 6 hits and 2 runs. Everyone contributed offensively to score 14 runs.

In the Brunswick game, Jacob Holland pitched a 2-hitter to hold them in check until the Raider’s bats came alive. In the bottom of the fifth, SA scored 10 runs on eight hits to end the game in 5 innings. The offense was led by Tonee Hill and Matt Rose, with 2 hits each. Cam Hines delivered the first two runs of the game with a 2 RBI single in the fifth inning.

In the last game of the week, SA beat Portsmouth Christian 14-2. The game started off with Portsmouth Christian scoring 2 runs in the first inning. Pitcher Brynner Porter came back stronger in the second inning and picked up the win by allowing only 2 hits the rest of the way. Offensively, Porter also contributed 2 hits and 3 RBIs. The entire teams contributed offensively and defensively to wrap up the game and finish the week on a very positive note.

Southampton Academy is 11-1 on the season and is scheduled to travel to Farmville on Tuesday to play conference foe Fuqua School. The Raiders will play at home on Thursday against Kenston Forest School.
