SA Girls go 2-1 on road trip

COURTLAND—In last week’s three-game road trip, the Southampton Academy Lady Raiders softball team were bested by Central Virginia Homeschool 5-4 on March 24, but they rebounded on March 27 and 28, respectively defeating Amelia Academy 5-0 and Ridgecroft School 7-0.

The girls had no errors in their two road wins.

Central Virginia took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Southampton Academy would go ahead in the top of the third, 3-2, but it would be their last lead after CVH tied it up in the bottom of the inning.

CVH took the lead in the bottom of the fifth, and SA tied it up 4 all in the top of the sixth. The final blow came in the the bottom of the seventh, as CVH had a walk-off hit.

Brooke Mizelle was 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs. She also pitched all seven innings, giving up seven hits. She struck out 10.

On Thursday, SA took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first and never looked back. Scoring again in the fourth and adding an insurance run in the top of the seventh.

Mizelle pitched all seven innings and struck out 10, only giving up one hit and one walk.

She was also 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Ashten Hinkle was 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Mason Pope was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

On Friday, the Lady Raiders scored one run in the first, four in the third and two in the top of the seventh.

Mizelle was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with 1 RBI and 3 runs.

Pope was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Morgan Pope was 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs, with one coming on a sacrifice fly.

Mizelle pitched all seven innings, striking out 12 and giving up two hits and two walks.
