SA softball pitches shutout against IWA

COURTLAND—The Southampton Academy softball team defeated the Isle of Wight Lady Chargers on Friday 4-0 at home.

Brook Mizelle pitched her second shutout in two days, with a little help from her teammate Ashten Hinkle, who turned double plays to end the sixth and seventh innings.

Mizelle gave up 3 hits and struck out 7.

Kara Beth Pool and Peyton Pittman provided hits to drive in three runs. The other run came in through an error. On the season, Pool is batting .500, and Mizelle is batting .545.

The Raiders lost their first game of the season 3-2 against Brunswick Academy, and defeated Fuqua Thursday 10-0.

Mizelle drove in both runs Tuesday against the Vikings, batting 3-for-4.

Thursday’s game against Fuqua was called in the fifth inning. Mizelle pitched a no-hitter after going 9 innings against Brunswick Academy.

Mason Pope drove in three runs. August Ringer, Brooke Mizelle and Morgan Pope each drove in two.
