ISLE OF WIGHT—Denbigh Baptist Christian rode clutch foul shooting in tipping Isle of Wight Academy 57-51 on Monday night.

The Minutemen’s Jeremy Brooker was 4-for-6 from the line in the final 38.7 seconds to lock up the win for Denbigh.

Sam Thomas, Denbigh’s top shooter and the No. 1 scorer in the Metro Athletic Conference (23 points per game coming in), also had a field goal with 1 minute remaining to put his team ahead for good, 53-51.

Thomas finished with 23 points, including four three-pointers. Teammate Aaron Barnes had 16. IWA’s Josh Darden had 14, including four from long range. Bryce Casey finished with 13 points; Jonathan Lilly, 11.

Friday night against Broadwater Academy, the Chargers fell short of a fourth-quarter comeback attempt in a 66-45 loss.

IWA got another standout performance by junior Adam Webb, who had 12 points and 6 rebounds, but his team found itself at a 38-31 rebounding disadvantage overall. Jonathan Lilley was IWA’s leading rebounder with 7. Trailing 54-29 after three quarters, IWA’s reserves entered the game and outscored Broadwater 16-12 in the final frame. But, they found the accrued deficit too great to overcome.

Broadwater was led by Brendon Burrows’ 20 points, Michael Riopel’s 19 and Wesley Shrieves’ 17. Riopel was the Vikings’ go-to on the boards with 8.

IWA dropped to 6-16 overall and 3-11 in conference play.
