IWA wins a non-conference game; loses two in conference

ISLE OF WIGHT—Jonathan Lilley had a season-high 20 points as Isle of Wight Academy defeated Virginia Beach Friends School 72-38 at home Wednesday night.

Lilley, a senior, had four three-pointers and was aided by classmates Gage Rogers and Brandon Saxby, who had 14 points each. Friends School was paced by Cameron Howe’s 18 points and Walker Thomas’ 12.

On Tuesday, Isle of Wight was in action against Williamsburg Christian Academy, where they were defeated 59-20.

The Eagles, in sole possession of first place in the Metro Athletic Conference, got 17 points from Devon Nosaka and 14 from lanky post player Xavier Green. No IWA player scored more than 4 points. The Chargers’ reserves filled in amply for the team’s starting five. They played the Eagles’ backups to a 9-7 IWA advantage in the fourth quarter.

Isle of Wight Academy was outgunned by Atlantic Shores Christian School 75-25 last Saturday night.

No Chargers scored in double figures in a game that saw the Seahawks rush out to a 16-0 lead in the first 5:38 of the opening quarter. Atlantic Shores, without leading scorer Aaron Ferguson (12.4 ppg), got 22 points from Isaiah Cotton and 14 from Shawn Coleman. The Chargers’ 25 points is their lowest output this year. Due to weather cancellations, they were playing only their second game in two weeks.

IWA us 5-14 overall this year, and is 2-9 in the Metro Athletic Conference.
