CHESAPEAKE—After falling behind in the first half, Tidewater Academy’s second half comeback effort was cut short Saturday, as they lost 36-32 to Greenbrier Christian Academy.

Tidewater Academy pulled ahead 14-11 in the first quarter, but after putting in a 2-point second quarter, while giving up 16, the Warriors were down by 11 at the halfway point.

Both teams came out cold in the second half, as the third quarter was a 5-4 point effort in favor of the Warriors. Tidewater Academy also won the fourth quarter 11-5, but the 16-point second quarter was just too much to overcome for the Warriors.

All of the Tidewater points were scored by Elanté Drew, who led with 13, Payton Holdsworth, who had 10, and Daniel McKenney, who had 9 points — all off 3-point baskets.

In a home matchup against Brunswick on Friday, the Warriors came out strong in the first half and went on to record a 20-point victory margin.

Tidewater Academy won the first quarter by a score of 17-10. McKenney led the Warriors in scoring that quarter with 7 points.

TA’s defense kept Brunswick to just 5 points in the second quarter, as the Warriors added another 12, going up 29-15 at the half.

Brunswick won the third quarter by three points — 16-13, but the Warriors came out and lived on the line, making 11 of 14 free throw attempts in a 17 point quarter. McKenney made all 6 free throw shots he attempted in the fourth.

He also led in scoring, with 24 points. McKenney made 7 of 8 free throws in the game. Drew wasn’t far behind him, scoring 18.

Tidewater Academy is now 12-2 (4-0 in conference).

The Warriors played Southampton Academy Tuesday night in Courtland, with the game ending after deadline. They next face Fuqua on Friday in Farmville.
