Isle of Wight boys drop to 2-10 on season

ISLE OF WIGHT—Isle of Wight Academy succumbed to a relentless Williamsburg Christian squad Friday night, 59-37.

The Chargers trailed by just 8, 24-16, at halftime, but an 11-2 Eagle scoring deluge in the first three minutes of the third quarter broke the game open. Williamsburg Christian’s Ryan Flanagan had all of his 9 points in that quarter; Xavier Green had his 6 during the same span. The Eagles’ Mark Seaman finished with 19 points.

IWA was led by senior guard Brandon Saxby’s 7 points.

On Tuesday night in Exmore, Isle of Wight Academy fell victim to a third-quarter scoring binge, bowing to Broadwater Academy 75-42.

The Chargers trailed 34-15 at halftime, but a 31-point outburst by the Vikings gave them a decided edge. The game’s leading scorer, Broadwater’s Michael Riopel, had 6 of his 18 points during that period. Wesley Shrieves had half of his 14 points in the third quarter. Brandon Burrows finished with 15 points for the Vikings IWA was out-rebounded by Broadwater 40-31, including a 23-15 differential on the Chargers’ end of the court that yielded few second-chance attempts. The battle was all but even — 17-16 — on Broadwater’s end. IWA was led by Justice Fuller’s 10 points.

The Chargers dropped to 2-11 on the year, including a 0-6 mark in Metro Athletic Conference play.
