TA wins game one in Christmas Tourney

WAKEFIELD—The Tidewater Academy Warriors had a solid showing in the first game of its annual Christmas Tourney on Thursday against the Summit Christian Academy Eagles, pulling off a 68-40 victory.

Elanté Drew led the Warriors with 22 points, eight of those in the fourth quarter. Daniel McKenney had 16 points, including 3 3-point baskets, and he shot 3-4 from the free throw line.

TA came out scoring 17 in the first quarter, 6 of those points from Payton Holdsworth, who scored 9 total points. The Eagles were held to 10 points, but made 2 3-point baskets in the quarter.

In the second quarter, Drew led the way for the Warriors with 8 points, as the team improved the lead to 31-20. The Eagles were only able to get 9 points in the third quarter, while McKenney hit two of his 3-point baskets, scoring a total of 8 in the teams’ 20-point quarter.

Going into the fourth, the score was 51-29. The Eagles added 11 points in the fourth quarter, while the Warriors added 17 in cruising to its ninth victory of the season. TA is 9-1.

Jesse Kimrey led the Eagles in scoring with 13, including three 3-pointers.
