SA boys trade games on the road

FUQUA—Southampton Academy won its first conference game on the road Dec. 10, but fell Friday, Dec. 13 to Fuqua.

The Raiders are 3-2 overall and 1-0 in conference.

On Friday, Southampton Academy lost to Fuqua 72-50. In the first quarter, Fuqua took a 19-13 lead, and they were up 34-23 by the half. At the end of the third quarter, Fuqua was up 57-37.

Tonee Hill led the Raiders in scoring with 17, and Cam Hines and Matt Rose each had 10. Johnny Tribbett led the team in assists with 9.

“The team just had too many turnovers,” said coach Jim Tribbett.

On Monday, they faced Brunswick Academy in Lawrenceville.

SA began the game going on a 9-2 run during the first quarter. They continued to dominate defensively in the first half, only allowing 5 points while scoring 15 to go up 24-7 at the half.

The Raiders scored 9 in the third, while allowing 13. But the Raiders came back and scored 15 in the fourth quarter, while allowing 9. The final score was 48-27.

Tonee Hill led in scoring with 22, and he had 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Cam Hines had 10 points. Johnny Tribbett had 5 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 steals.

Today, the Raiders will participate in a tournament at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, starting play against Hampton Roads Academy. On Saturday, they will face Nansemond-Suffolk.
