Southampton Academy defeats Lawrence Academy 40-29

MERRY HILL, N.C.—The Southampton Academy boys basketball team defeated the Lawrence Academy Warriors in the second half Thursday night.

The Warriors came out in the first quarter and took a 15-9 lead, but the Raiders rallied by halftime and were up 23-21. In the third quarter, the Raiders extended the lead to 32-23. The final score was 40-29.

With the win, the Raiders improve to 2-1 on the season.

Tonee Hill scored 17 points and had 6 boards, five assists and 6 steals. Cam Hines scored 11 points. Point guard Johnny Tribbett had 8 points, 4 rebounds and two assists. He hit two three point jumpers.

“We had a strong floor game,” said Head Coach Jim Tribbett. “This is the best we have played all year.”

The Raiders will next face the Brunswick Academy Vikings in Lawrenceville on Monday, Dec. 9.

The team’s only loss in its 2-1 start came against Ridgecroft in a 44-42 overtime match on Monday.

Tribbett had a double-double, with 13 points and 10 boards. He also had 6 assists. Hill scored 21 in the loss.
