Tidewater Academy overtakes Nansemond-Suffolk 56-53

SUFFOLK—The Tidewater Academy Warriors (4-0) basketball team held off Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints (1-1) in a tight match Tuesday.

The Warriors came out in the first quarter and scored 12, going up by 3 points.

By the half, the Saints had closed to within a point. The Saints then surged ahead of of the Warriors by 10 points, going up 44-34.

But the Warriors closed in the fourth quarter, scoring 22 points to defeat the Saints by 3, by a final score of 56-53.

In the winning effort, Elante Drew led the warriors with 22 points, going a perfect 8 for 8 from the free throw line. Marty Gura scored 14, and Payton Holdsworth scored 9.

In the losing effort, Morgan Wentz led the Saints with 22 points. C.J. Patterson scored 11.
