FRANKLIN—The Franklin Mustang program said its farewell to Head Coach Rob Carter on Tuesday evening during the annual Mustang Banquet at Franklin High School.

Carter decided to retire following a 30-year coaching career with the Mustangs. He began coaching the Mustangs in 1980 and has continuously coached the team with the exception of a three-year interruption, when the team was coached by William Tawney.

The Mustangs have played in every championship game since 1985, with the exception of 2001. During this time the Mustangs have been crowned champions of the youth league 15 times.

The Mustangs enjoyed a 6-0 season this year, averaging 35 points per game and only allowing a total of 13 points for the entire season. Carter took the time to thank all the people who have made his coaching career a success, especially making sure to cite local businesses, his coaching staff, the parents of all the children and his wife Linda, who has been there by his side every step of the way.

Plans for the future include spending more time with family, and he hopes to still be involved with the Mustangs as a consultant.

He also introduced Coach Derek Bynum, who is currently the offensive coordinator for the Mustangs, as his successor for Head Coach of the Mustangs.

Coach Bynum has been with the Mustangs for three years and is the former Head Coach for the Ivor Warriors.
