Munford, a junior, who shot a 74 at that event, went on to Harrisonburg to play in the state tournament at Heritage Oaks Country Club. He played Monday and Tuesday, but those results were not available at press time.

“He played extremely well in the conditions,” said golf coach William Whitehurst. “The rain was hard and the wind was blowing, and he kept it under control.

“Later on, when the sun started to shine, he took advantage of it and made 6 birdies.”

Sthole and Kreider, who shot 138 and 145 respectively, did not fair as well in the conditions, but Franklin High School golf coach Dave Lease was happy with their performance all year.

“I feel really good — I didn’t think we’d have anyone make it,” said Lease. “I knew Oakley had a chance, but Timothy played really good in the conference tournament and he was the last person in.”

Lease said that Oakley, a senior, made the all-conference team. Her season average was 53 in 9-hole golf. Kreider’s average was 62 in 9-hole golf. He is a sophomore.

Munford’s average was 39 in 9-hole golf.

“He’s played well all year,” said Whitehurst. “But he peaked at the right time. He had a mid-season slump, but all of a sudden, he was back in the groove. It’s the right time of year to peak.”
