LASKER, N.C.—Quickly taking control of the ball at the start of the game propelled visiting Southampton Academy to its 58-6 win against Northeast Academy on Friday.

“We jumped on them early,” said SA Coach Dale Marks. “It helps out when you jump out and take the opening kickoff. That always tends to ease the tension.”

And in the first quarter alone, the Raiders had racked up 30 points.

Cam Hines returned 75 yards for the first score of the game on the opening kick-off. Ethan Edwards ran the conversion in.

The next touchdown was by Tony Hill on a 7-yard run with 10:46 to go in the first quarter; Paul Parker ran the conversion.

Hill again got the next touchdown with a 46-yard run at 7:44 in the first; Edwards ran the conversion.

With 18 seconds left on the clock in the first quarter, Matt Rose carried it in from the two yard line, but the conversion failed. At the end of the first, it was 30-0.

At 9:11 in the second quarter, Colin Swenson caught an 11-yard pass from Rose, and Edwards ran the conversion.

In the 3rd quarter, with 6:04 left, Rose had a 54-yard run for a touchdown, but both the run and conversion failed.

Nate Williams had a 40-yard run for the next score with 1:40 in the third, but that conversion failed. With 6:50 left on the game clock, he then had a 25-yard run and Andrew Lowe ran in the conversion.

The Raiders also benefited with two quick scores from a recovery at the second half kick-off, said Marks.

With 11 seconds left in the game, the Eagles scored their first touchdown, with a 13-yard pass to Jake Bryant from QB Christian Fleetwood; but they failed on the conversion.

“After not having a week of practice because of the weather, I thought we were crisper than I expected us to be considering the short week of practice,” he added.

“Matt Rose was the leading rusher with 4 rushes for 74 yards and two touchdowns,” Marks continued. “But it was really kind of balanced. Nate Williams had 4 rushes for 74 yards and two touchdowns. Tony Hill had 2 rushes for 53 yards and two touchdowns and Paul Parker had 2 rushes for 36 yards. We were 5 for 10 at 87 yards with one score passing.”

Southampton Academy is 7-0 on the season.
