LAWRENCEVILLE—The Brunswick High School Bulldogs blanked the Southampton Indians 47-0.

The Indians drop to 0-5, while the Bulldogs improve to 3-2.

“Basically, they were just dominant up front, on both sides, offensive and defensive line,” said head coach Willie Gillus, Jr. “They were just physically stronger than us. They pushed us around early in the game, and that showed all four quarters.”

Gillus said there were some positives.

“We had some good offensive spots early in the game,” he said. “But they put up some long runs, and that kind of hurt us.

“To be positive, the kids continue to play hard. They really fought hard to the end. But we’ve got to get stronger up front.”

Russell Ballance was 5-9 passing with 76 yards through the air. Coby Williams led the Indians in rushes with 47 yards on 14 carries.

Williams, a junior linebacker, also led the team in tackling, with 17. Chris Lawrence, senior linebacker, had 15 tackles.

The Indians were down 40-0 at the end of the first half, and the Bulldogs put up the final score of the game in the third quarter.

Gillus said his team was not going to give up, that they were going to keep playing hard throughout the rest of the season.

“It is tough to see the score on the scoreboard, but our kids are playing hard,” he said. “But it is just another step in building up a program. We’re going to go back to practice, and keep doing the things we have been doing. We’re going to continue to work hard, build, and move in a positive direction.”
