WINDSOR—Washington and Lee dominated the field against host Windsor High School for three quarters on Friday to achieve a 20-12 victory.

Within 5 minutes after the kickoff, the Eagles’ scored their first touchdown, and the quarter ended with the score still 7-0.

In the second quarter, Windsor player Malcolm Greene intercepted an Eagles’ pass and took it to the 2-yard line. A procedure call was made against the Dukes, however, and the ball was moved to the 6-inch line.

Although Washington and Lee continued to push through the remaining minutes of the quarter, Windsor kept them from scoring any more points.

In the second half, the Dukes kicked off but were unsuccessful in their onside attempt.

The Eagles quickly got control of the ball, and their runningback D.J. Weldon scored the next touchdown with a little more than 1 minute into play. Fellow runningbacks Marion Pollard and Alex Lane later increased the score, increasing the lead to 20-0 by the end of the third quarter.

During the fourth quarter, though, is when the Dukes not only held their own, but advanced.

Chapman threw the ball to runningback Caleb Dundlow, who made what one spectator called a “spectacular catch” for the team’s first touchdown.

With 2:23 remaining on the clock, the Dukes struck again for the final 6 points.

In stats: Chapman had 16 carries for 75 yards; Dundlow had 6 carries for -3 yards.

There were 12 attempts by Chapman with 6 completed passes for 62 yards. Dundlow had 7 receptions for 52 yards.

“It was a great effort,” Windsor Coach Chuck Parrish said afterward. “We made a few mistakes. But, holy cow, the effort!”

He added that if the team shows for rest of the season what they did in the fourth quarter, the Dukes would triumph.

“I’m excited about this,” Parrish said as he gave high-fives to departing players. “They worked very hard.”

The Dukes go to Northampton on Friday, Sept. 20, and host Brunswick on Friday, Sept. 27.
