After a rain cancellation, a scheduled holiday and another rain cancellation, the Western Tidewater Tennis Association’s Tri-Level Leagues season finally began on Thursday, July 18, at the Cypress Cove Country Club.

The inaugural season pits four, 9-member teams against each other in head-to-head play throughout a six-week schedule at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the country club. Each match features two out of three sets with a 10-point tiebreaker for the third set, consisting of three doubles matches of varying levels. The levels are broken down as follows: A or advanced players, B or intermediate players, and C or beginner players.

RESULTS FROM JULY 18:

The Amazing Aces defeated Jack and The BallStalks, 2-1

At the A level, The Amazing Aces, consisting of Hugh Raulston and Andy Mason, defeated Jack and The BallStalks, consisting of Steve Stewart and Tommy Harrel, 6-3, 7-4 (4).

Jack and The BallStalks would rally at the B and C levels, with Tina Evan and Crystal Butler defeating Waverly Taylor and Debra Ward 6-2, 6-3. Krista Weaver and Karen Dube’ defeated Courtney Whitley and Annette Weaver, 6-2, 6-2, to clinch the victory for Jack and the BallStalks.

Serves You Right defeated Just Out, 2-1

Just Out started off with a win at the A Level, with Sheryl Raulston and Ken Cussick defeating Randy Betz and Frank Davis of Serves You Right, 6-1, 6-1.

But, Just Out would rally at the B and C levels to clinch the victory. Memi Taylor and Sharon Sheffield defeated Madi Niles and Lauren Harper 6-3, 61, while Nancy Gansor and Connie Williams defeated Tammy Walters and Lisa McCartney, 6-2, 6-2.

RESULTS FROM July 25:

Serves You Right defeated The Amazing Aces, 2-1

At the A level, Chris Stambaugh and Randy Betz of Serves You Right defeated Hugh Raulson and Andy Mason of The Amazing Aces 6-3, 6-4.

Serves You Right lost at the C level, but would clinch the victory through its B level team, consisting of Jen Whitley and Memi Taylor defeating Debra Ward and Mark Evans 6-0, 6-2. Annette Weaver and Willie Schools of The Amazing Aces defeated Connie Williams and Megahn Councill in three sets, 6-7 (3), 7-5 and 10-4.

Just Out defeated Jack and The BallStalks, 2-1

Just Out would bounce back from its Thursday, July 18, loss to defeat Jack and the BallStalks on July 25. Sheryl Raulston and Ken Cussick defeated Jack Schwolow and Steve Stewart, 7-5, 6-3.

Katie Hedgepeth and Lauren Harper would clinch the victory for Just Out, defeating Tina Evans and Maggie Evans, 6-3, 6-2.

Krista Weaver and Diann Cooper defeated Tammy Walters and Lisa McCartney, 6-1, 6-4 to give Jack and the BallStalks its single point in the doubles league game.

League standings are: Serves You Right 2-0; Jack and the Ball Stalks 1-1; Just Out 1-1 and The Amazing Aces, 0-2.
