Petersburg—One run in the top of the first was all Brunswick Academy needed in what Isle of Wight coach Chris Hooper called a “very tough, very tight, back and forth game.” Brunswick ended Isle of Wight’s season with a 1-0 win in the state semifinals on Thursday.

“We just didn’t have any timely hitting,” said Hooper, whose team only threatened to score in the bottom of the sixth inning, but were unable to take advantage of having runners on first and second base with no outs.

Both teams managed only three hits on the day, and Brunswick’s only baserunner after the first inning came on an infield hit in the fourth.
