Southampton Academy girls tennis wins fourth in a row

COURTLAND—The Lady Raiders of Southampton Academy on April 18 defeated the Lady Cougars of Surry High 7-2 for their fourth win in a row.

Barclay Gatten and Mina Johnson led SA with 6-0 wins in singles. Gatten and Johnson also teamed up for a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles.

Olivia Fox won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, and teamed with fellow junior, Rachel White for a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Kirsten Wachsmann extended her singles winning streak to two in a row with a 6-4 win at No. 3 singles.

Elena Litman and Selena Johnson avenged an earlier loss this season to the Surry duo of Cierra Anthony and Bria Gholston with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles, securing Litman’s inaugural high school win.

The VCC tournament is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center at The College of William and Mary, Williamsburg.
