SA soccer team back on track

COURTLAND—The Southampton Academy Varsity soccer team defeated Virginia Commonwealth Conference foe Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot 4-1 on Wednesday.

The Raiders improve to 12-1-2 on the season.

The Raiders ended the first half with a 2-1 lead with both goals by junior Johnny Tribbett.

Late in the first half the Raiders struggled to maintain possession of the ball giving BSH several opportunities to tie the game, but sophmore Keeper Travis O’Bryant played a solid game.

In the second half, junior Anna Carr gave the Raiders some breathing room by scoring off an assist from senior Alex Parker.  Tribbett scored for the third time in the final minutes to finish the game with his fourth hat trick of the season giving him 26 goals on the year.  Senior Zach Best had two assists in the game, bringing his season total for assists to 22.

The Raiders will next host Kenston Forest at 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 26.

In JV action

The Raiders defeated the Rock Church Lions 5-1 in their season finale.  Eighth grader Stephen Setchel got his first hat trick of the season. The other two goals were scored by eighth grader Emery Weist and seventh grader Scott Pittman.  Setchel led the JV team in scoring with eight total goals this season.
