The Lady Indians used a 6 run 3rd inning to down the visiting Eagles of Prince Edward 9-3, Thursday afternoon in Courtland.

DeMone` Brickhouse started the inning off with an inside the park home run. Zoe Dunlow followed with a double, and she came home on an Emily Nelson triple. Nelson scored on the two-out single of TaLisha Jenkins. Jenkins went to third on a Megan Duck double, and they both scored on another two-out hit, this time a single off the bat of Shelby Billups. The ladies were poised to widen their 7-3 5th inning lead after a pair of walks by Madison Cabell & Cortney Greene, and a pair of singles by

Jenkins & Billups, but a short-hopped line drive to short stop froze both runners and the Eagles were able to turn the double play and get out of the inning, surrendering only 2 runs, and leaving the score at its final, 9-3.

Courtney Greene pitched the complete game for the Indians, surrendering 3 runs on 12 hits, but allowed only 1 walk. “Courtney did a great job today of throwing strikes and trusting her defense. And the one walk, that’s great, if we get that kind of performance out of her, we’ll be fine. I said it before, if we limit our own mistakes in the field, we’re going to score runs. And we will be in great shape! Oh and one error that didn’t cost us a run today, that was fantastic as well. Very proud of these girls and this is a great district win for us.”

The ladies will be in action next on Tuesday the 23rd as they travel to Greensville County in another Southside District matchup.
