LAWRENCEVILLE—The Southampton High School soccer team won its second match in a row defeating Southside District opponent Brunswick High School 5-4 Monday.

“I was very pleased with the result,” said SHS Coach Scott Edwards. “We gave up too many good scoring opportunities to the opponent.”

The Indians started the match off scoring 30 seconds into the first half, as Wally Le scored on a pass from Kevin Watford.  Brunswick answered with three first half goals. The Indians closed the gap when Kevin Watford scored on a pass from Alex Dunlow late in the half to make it a 3-2 game.

“If we are going to continue to win games, we will have to do a better job on the defensive end,” Edwards said.

In the second half Brunswick came out and scored early to make the score 4-2. The Indians were quick to answer with back-to-back goals by Le, scoring his second, and Tyler Grant. Grant’s goal tied the game at 4 all.

With about two minutes remaining in the game, Gavin Thompson headed in a corner kick from Alex Dunlow for the match-winning goal.

Other leaders for the Indians were Dunlow, with three assists, and senior goalie Nathan Johnson had six saves in the match.
