Indians defeat Dragons 4-3 in extra innings

SOUTH HILL—The Southampton Indians improved their record to 3-0 on the season with a win at Park View High School Tuesday night. The Indians were led by strong pitching performances from Mason Wright and Hunter Peck who struck out a combined 13 batters. Wright and Peck gave up a combined four hits on the night. The Indians were able to tally nine hits overall.
Southampton exploded in the top of the first when Hayden Spalding hit a 1-2 fastball over the centerfield fence to make the score 1-0. Mason Wright reached second base by an error on the rightfielder. Wright later scored on a passed ball.
Josh Riddick scored a run in the top of the second when he led off the inning with a double. Peck lined a base hit to left field to plate Riddick. Park View scored one run in the first and two in the third.
Offensively, the Indians were led by Hayden Spalding who was 2-5 with a homerun and the game winning RBI. Also having big offensive nights were Josh Riddick who was 2-4 with two doubles and Hunter Peck who was 3-4 and scored the go ahead run. The Indians hosted Franklin High School at 4:30 Thursday. Results were not available.
