Powell finishes first in two races

BRIDGEWATER—Virginia University of Lynchburg sophomore Ronnie Powell finished first in the women’s 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash at the Bridgewater College Jopson Invitational held on the campus of Bridgewater College March 23rd.

Powell had an outstanding outing during the Jopson Invitational as she crossed the line in the 100-meter in a time of 12:71 seconds and 200-meter with a time of 26.86 seconds.

Powell, a Southampton High School alumni, had won both the 2010 and 2011 100-meter dash Virginia High School League State titles in Outdoor Track and the 2010 title in the 200-meter.

During the 2011 VHSL state championships Powell broke the 200-meter state record, 24.36, set in 1997 by Keanna Schuler of Broadway with a time 24.17.

Powell will next compete with VUL at the NSU Relays at Norfolk State University on Sunday, April 14.
