FREDERICKSBURG—No sooner had Lindsay Raulston from Franklin earned one achievement in women’s tennis, then she succeeded in another for the game.

On March 29, Raulston, a junior at the University of Mary Washington, and her teammates beat Swarthmore College, 9-0.

In singles competition, Raulston defeated Swarthmore’s Lia Carlson 6-3, 6-2. In doubles competition, Raulston and freshman Shelby Harris won over Carlson and Emily Rosenblum, 8-2.

The Lady Eagles are now 10-1 for the season and No. 6 in the Atlantic South Region. They were scheduled to play in Boston, Mass., for the Nor’Easter Bowl.

Raulston is a 2010 graduate of Southampton Academy, where she also made a name in basketball as well as tennis. She is the daughter of Hugh and Sheryl Raulston.

Before the wins against Swarthmore, Raulston went up to No. 2 place in the ITA Atlantic South Regional Singles Rankings. This is the first time that Raulston has been ranked so high by the ITA. Further, she’s one of three UMW alumni who have been ranked top three in the region, according to the school’s website. Last year she was 19 in the country and an All-American.

In doubles rankings, Raulston and Harris were ranked No. 5. Teammates senior Cassie Bowman and sophomore Alex Ritter were at No. 14.

Lindsay also was named the Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
